James F. Dennis

James F. Dennis, J.D.

Jim graduated from Gonzaga Law School in 1975.  He practiced law in California until 1978 when he and his wife decided to return to their hometown of Keokuk, Iowa so he could start a solo practice.  Since then, he has maintained an active general practice in Iowa, which expanded to include Illinois in 1984.

Over the past 40 years, Jim has represented clients in almost every area of the law including family matters, real estate, business, personal injury, medical malpractice and criminal law, to name a few.  Some representative Corporate Clients include the Keokuk Community School District, State Central Bank, Keokuk Low Rent Housing Agency, Union Electric Co. and Roquette America, Inc., an international manufacturing company.

Jim is an experienced Trial Attorney, having tried many cases before juries.  Some of these have been high profile cases involving murder, capital punishment/death penalty, personal injury and wrongful death.  Other work includes business, real estate and probate litigation.  Jim is a member of the Iowa Trial Lawyers Association (Association for Justice) and the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association and former member of the Illinois Capital Litigation Bar.

Jim has been married for 45 years and has 3 daughters, who help define him.  Jim enjoys coaching youth basketball, tennis, running (marathons and triathlons), yard and garden work and John Sanford novels.  He does find time for community involvement, currently a member of the Keokuk Community Foundation Board and Grand Theatre Foundation Board, having previously served on the YMCA Board and Keokuk Art Center Board, among others.

Jim has been asked many times why he doesn’t retire.  His simple answer is: “I love what I do and still have a lot to offer clients.”
